Social Cooperatives Provide New Opportunities for the Roma Community
A documentary film on the setting up of social cooperatives by the
members of the Roma community opens tonight at the IOM office in
Warsaw.
The feature film "Taborem do Europy" was shot over a
twelve-month period in several locations to document efforts
deployed by long-term unemployed Roma in their quest to set up
their own businesses with the help of social
cooperatives.
The cooperatives were established by IOM in partnership with the
Foundation for Social and Economic Initiatives, the Polish Red
Cross, the Association of Romany Women in Poland and the Union of
Polish Roma in an effort to promote Roma inclusion in the European
Union.
They are part of a broader integration project, which is
co-financed by the European Social Fund and the Government of
Poland within the framework of the European Commission EQUAL
Initiative.
