Repatriation of Sudanese Refugees Continues

An IOM airlift to repatriate some 2,000
Sudanese refugees from Kakuma Camp, in northwest Kenya to their
homes in Sudan's Upper Nile, Unity and Jonglei provinces
continues.

A fifth IOM chartered flight is scheduled to
land later today in Padak, South Bor, Upper Nile State with 47
returnees. Prior to their departure, the refugees who stayed at a
Lutheran World Federation (LWF) departure centre underwent a full
medical examination carried out by the International Rescue
Committee (IRC). IOM medical staff will accompany the returnees to
Bor, where they will be handed over to the UNHCR.

Upon arrival, the returnees will overnight at
a way station before receiving non-food items from UNHCR, food
rations from WFP and seeds and tools from FAO. In Malakal, onward
transportation is being provided by Adventist Development and
Reconstruction Agency (ADRA) and by UNHCR in South Bor.

To date, IOM has repatriated a total of 174
refugees from Kakuma to Bor and Malakal and expects to reach 500 by
the end of May. The repatriation is a collaborative effort between
IOM and UNHCR and is co-funded by both agencies.
