Regional Migration Legislation
A two-day seminar ending today in Guatemala City brought together
countries in the region to discuss their current migration
legislation and reforms underway.
The main objective of the seminar was for some 70 participants
to exchange information, experiences and best policies to better
manage migration and solidify regional cooperation on all issues
related to migration.
The organizers, IOM, the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM,
informally known as the Puebla Process) and the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), are confident that the seminar
will promote interpersonal relations between key officials that
will lead to productive dialogues in an environment that reduces
hierarchical barriers. The sharing of legislative processes and
ideas from diverse perspectives provides a rich dynamic that will
help to maintain an open dialogue with respect to the challenges,
opportunities and advantages that migration presents.
