Rapid Delivery of Blankets for Flood Victims
IOM has provided 2,000 blankets to the Afghan National Disaster
Management Authorities for distribution among victims of floods
that hit Parwan province at the end of last week where an estimated
1,200 affected families have now been relocated to safety.
Following the delivery, the blankets were transported to
affected areas in trucks donated by IOM to the Afghan government
last year.
Other areas of the country have also been hit by floods,
including the capital, Kabul, where heavy rains and melting snows
caused Kabul River to swell and overflow. About 500 homes and 100
businesses were either destroyed or damaged.
An inter-agency assessment team which included IOM was
immediately sent to the three affected districts of Kabul. It
estimated that about 900 families have been displaced and another
1,700 families remain at risk.
A number of floods and avalanches have also been reported in
various other provinces though details are sketchy.
