Radio Marathon Marks International Migrants Day
"Conéctate al Día Internacional del Migrante" (Tune
In to International Migrants Day) is the motto of a four-hour radio
marathon planned for Monday 18 December to mark International
Migrants Day in the Dominican Republic.
IOM, the National Migration Board, the Network of Haitian
Associations, the Dominican Educational Radio and ABC Radio, are
working together on the special programme that will include
information on migrant smuggling and human trafficking, as well as
testimonies by migrants from China, Colombia, France, Spain, Haiti,
Holland, Peru and Venezuela, as well as Dominicans residing
abroad.
Dominican Educational Radio on 95.3 FM will link up with radio
stations in more than 20 countries around the world that are
holding marathons to mark International Migrants Day.
"In the Dominican Republic, we will discuss the history of
migration, the contributions of migrants to culture and sports, as
well as hear the voices of migrants," explained Eddy Tejeda of the
National Migration Board.
This project is part of IOM’s activities aimed at raising
awareness on the human rights of migrants in the Dominican Republic
with financial assistance from the US State Department Office of
Population, Refugees and Migration.
