The President of Chad Visits Evacuees from the Central African Republic in Harazai, Klemat and Paris-Congo Transit Centres, N'Djamena, 02 January 2014

The exacerbation of the crisis in CAR in December 2013 has caused hundreds of thousands of Chadian migrants to flee for their lives either on their own or with the assistance of the Government of Chad and IOM through massive air and road evacuations.

The President of the Republic of Chad, H.E.M. Idriss Deby Itno visited evacuees from the Central African Republic (CAR) in Harazai, Klemat and Paris-Congo Transit Centres in N'Djamena on 02 January 2014.

The main objective of the President’s visit was to witness the situation of the evacuees from CAR who have been air evacuated by the Government of Chad and IOM, and who are temporarily accommodated in transit sites in N’Djamena.

The President met with the different groups of evacuees in the three transit sites, i.e., women, children, the elderly, and the injured during his visit and expressed his solidarity with their plight in the CAR on behalf of the Government of Chad through a press conference that he held with national television, radio, and newspapers at the end of his visit in the Paris-Congo Transit Site.

He was accompanied by the Prime Minister, H.E.M. Kalzeube Payimi Deubet and most of the members of the Government and the IOM Chief of Mission in Chad Dr. Qasim Sufi.
