Photo Competition to Raise Awareness on Adapting to Climate Change in the Indian Ocean

A photo competition organized by the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC)
and IOM with support from the UN's Development Programme (UNDP) has
been launched to help raise awareness on adapting to climate change
in IOC member states.

The competition, entitled "100 Photos for Climate Change
Adaptation", is open to anyone living in the Comoros Islands,
Reunion (France), Madagascar, Mauritius and the Seychelles.

Photographers, both professional and amateur, are invited to
submit up to five photos taken on any of the five IOC islands by 19
February 2011. Images will be judged by a panel comprising
professional photographers and experts on climate change adaption
on their relevance to the theme, their technical quality and on
creativity.

Prizes will be awarded to the 10 best images with the top three
winners also getting the opportunity to attend the award ceremony
and the opening of a photo exhibition showing the best of the
entries on 21 March 2011 in Mauritius.

The competition organizers hope to be able to gauge from the
submissions what people in the region know, understand and think
about climate change and how to adapt to it given the region is
highly vulnerable to issues such as rising sea levels and changing
weather patterns.
