Paraguayan Migration Officials Study Migration Management, Detection of False Travel Documents

Paraguay  - IOM Paraguay this week organized two training workshops for the country’s migration and border officials on migration management and detection of false travel documents.

The first event, held in the capital Asunción, brought together 25 officials from the central office of the Directorate General of Migration (DGM).

IOM migration and border management experts from IOM Paraguay and from the IOM regional offices in Argentina and Costa Rica led the workshops.

The first workshop focused on the legal migration framework, migrants’ rights, human trafficking, migration and integration processes, the country’s migration policy, including border management, and integral migration management procedures.

The second workshop, held in Ciudad Este and attended by 20 DGM border officials, focused on detection of fraudulent travel documents.

DGM Director General Jorge Kronawetter stressed the importance of new cooperation with IOM.  “These two workshops are just the beginning of our country’s partnership with IOM, which will serve to strengthen our migration management strategies,” he said.
