New Video News Release on Temporary Labour Migration from Guatemala to Canada
A new IOM video is available to broadcasters today highlighting the
selection process for the IOM Temporary Labour Migration Programme
from Guatemala to Canada.
The IOM Labour Migration Programme from Guatemala to Canada
began in 2003 with 215 workers and recently assisted the 12,000th
participant.
Since 2003, the Programme has become a success with employers as
well as Guatemalans signing up to participate. In 2009 a
total of 3,858 labour migrants travelled to Canada with IOM
assistance to work on 341 farms.
At a recent field recruitment exercise in the small village of
Panabajal, located some 85 kilometres from the capital, 150 new
applicants gather in the school yard eagerly await the arrival of
the IOM team that would check documents and perform a series of
aptitude tests.
The script and video, which is available in natural sound with
soundbites in English and Spanish, can be downloaded from the IOM
website at: www.iom.int
