Migration Health Book Launch
IOM and the Spanish Foundation, Paulino
Torras Domènech are launching a book today on
‘Migration and Health' on the fringes of an IOM seminar
currently taking place in Geneva on the challenges posed by the
migration of health workers.
The book, in Spanish and Catalan, addresses
issues such as migrant mother and child health, mental health of
migrants as well as the need to improve communications between
immigrants and health professionals in Spain. The book is the
result of a collaboration between IOM and the Foundation in October
2004 when a symposium was held in Barcelona bringing together
health and migration professionals for an exchange of views on
policy concerns with particular focus on the public health
implications of increasingly mobile populations.
Established in 1970, the Foundation has been
an observer member of IOM since 1993 and has been active in
promoting a better understanding of migration issues.
