Migrant Resource Centre Opens in Vietnam
Vietnam’s first IOM–supported Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) will open in Ha Noi today.
The pilot scheme will provide information and support services to intending and returning Vietnamese migrant workers to reduce the risks and maximize the benefits of their employment and life abroad.
In 2011 more than 80,000 Vietnamese migrant workers travelled abroad for work through organized labor schemes. Thousands of others left independently and there are currently an estimated 500,000 Vietnamese workers in over 40 countries.
“Migrant workers need reliable and accurate information and adequate support services to make their migration a success for themselves, their families left behind and the broader development of Viet Nam,” says IOM Vietnam Chief of Mission Florian Forster.
Co-financed by IOM's Development Fund, the project will be implemented by the Department of Overseas Labour, a part of the Ministry of Labour Invalids and Social Affairs, in cooperation with the Vietnam Women’s Union and IOM.
It will focus on developing and delivering direct information services to migrants, supplemented by targeted outreach and awareness-raising activities in areas of high emigration in Viet Nam.
The project will also foster the exchange of good practices in providing comprehensive migrant support services between Viet Nam and other Asian countries.
The MRC is located at: DOLAB building, 1st Floor, 41 B Ly Thai To, Hoan Kiem District, Ha Noi City. Tel: (84) 4 3936 6633. Email: hotrolaodongngoainuoc[at]gmail.com
