Launching of the 2013 National Migration Profile for Comoros
IOM will launch the first National Migration Profile for Comoros jointly with the Ministry of External Relations and Cooperation, a project which is funded by the IOM Development Fund (IDF).
The Launching of the Migration Profile for the Union of Comoros falls under a regional project funded by the IDF entitled "Mainstreaming Migration into Development Planning through Migration Profiles in the South East Indian Ocean Region", which aims to build government capacities in developing reliable and comparable migration data for more evidence-based policy development in this region. While migration to and within the Indian Ocean region has been increasing in recent years and with the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between the Indian Ocean Commission and IOM in November 2013, a better understanding of current migration trends is essential for policymakers to formulate intervention harnessing migration’s beneficial effects and mitigating its negative consequences.
This Migration Profile is a result of an extensive consultative process with the Government of the Union of Comoros and other international and national stakeholders and provides initial conclusions and recommendations, which will contribute to strengthening the capacity of the Government to better collect migration data, analyze the trends and effects of migration and develop coherent evidence-based migration policies.
