Kuwait Supports IOM's Humanitarian Work
IOM Director General Brunson McKinley is today welcoming the visit
of the Permanent Representative of Kuwait in Geneva, H.E Ambassador
Dharar Abdulrazak Razooqi at the organization's headquarters.
During the meeting, Ambassador Razooqi will hand over a cheque for
US$200,000 in an annual voluntary support and recognition of IOM's
global humanitarian work, projects and its activities.
Kuwait has become an increasingly important donor to IOM in recent
years. Kuwait contributed significant amounts for IOM's
humanitarian programmes in Iraq, with IOM's office in Kuwait
overseeing the Organization's activities in Basra in southern
Iraq.
It is the third year that Kuwait has given such a voluntary
contribution to IOM and it is a mark of the steady growth and
cooperation. "We are proud of our growing partnership with Kuwait,
a leading actor in the humanitarian arena," said McKinley.
The IOM Director General will express his appreciation for the
efforts deployed by ambassador Razooqi and members of the permanent
mission of Kuwait in developing a closer and stronger relationship
between his government and IOM.
The meeting will discuss ways and means to reinforce and diversify
cooperation programmes between Kuwait such as humanitarian
programmes in Iraq and other issues related to IOM mandate.
