El Salvador - Thousands of migrants returning to the Northern Triangle of Central America from the United States will now experience better reception conditions following IOM’s renovation of nine migrant care centres, three of which were delivered to the governments of El Salvador and Honduras this month.

In the facilities located in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, migrant returnees receive various services offered by their governments, including immigration processing, medical and psychosocial care and help with economic reintegration.

The USAID-funded centres were redesigned to meet the needs of migrants in a dignified and humane manner, with special consideration for the needs of families and unaccompanied children. The improvements will increase the capacity of the centres by 50 percent.

IOM is also providing technical support to the governments of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, including specialized staff to assist in the areas of statistics, migrant orientation, psycho-social assistance, transport and logistics.
