IOM, UNFPA Hand Over Mother and Child Health Facilities in Mansehra
IOM and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) have constructed seven
pre-fabricated Mother, Newborn Child Health (MNCH) units in
Mansehra district, North West Frontier Province (NWFP).
The well-quipped facilities, located in one of the districts
worst hit by the October 2005 earthquake, include one at the tehsil
headquarters, two rural health centres and four basic health
units.
The units, which took six months to build, will mainly provide
primary health care to women, newborns and to the general
public.
The keys to the unit were handed over to Mansehra Executive
District Officer Health Dr. Khalid Javed Khan by UNFPA Director Dr.
France Donnay and IOM Project Manager Col. Muhammad Asif.
UNFPA and IOM previously worked together to build 75 houses for
female health workers in Mansehra. These buildings are also used as
primary health facilities for pregnant women.
