IOM Trains Libyan NGO, Community Workers in Tunisia
Libya - IOM Libya has organized a two-day training course on vulnerability assessment in Zarzis, Tunisia, for Libyan NGO and community workers.
As the security situation in Libya remains volatile, many Libyans and migrant workers have been forced to leave their homes and seek shelter in other parts of the country.
Many third country nationals remain effectively stranded, as they are unable to cross into Egypt and Tunisia. Others simply do not have sufficient means to travel back to their countries of origin.
IOM Tripoli provides direct assistance to them through the provision of non-food relief items and hygiene kits. It facilitates repatriations, whenever possible, in coordination with civil society organizations involved in providing humanitarian assistance to the internally displaced and stranded migrants.
The Zarzis training was part of a German-funded project: “Enhancing Protection of Vulnerable Migrants in Libya’s South through Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration of the Most Vulnerable Groups and Awareness Raising on Human Trafficking.”
Participants included 16 NGO representatives from the Network on Psychosocial Support, the Libyan Crisis Committee, the Tahir Al-Zawi Organization, the Libyan Relief Organization and the Multakan Centre.
The training aimed to improve their understanding of how to identify vulnerable groups, particularly victims of trafficking; best practices in assessing urgent needs, and enhancing awareness on how to provide protection and direct assistance.
