IOM Supports and Participates in Fourth World Social Forum on Migration
The fourth World Social Forum on Migration, held this year in
Quito, Ecuador, brought together thousands of participants from all
continents, to exchange best practices and formulate proposals to
address four main topics: migration and the global economic crisis;
migration and human rights; diversity, coexistence and
socio-cultural transformations; and new forms of slavery, servitude
and human exploitation.
The Forum, organized by a worldwide network of national
platforms including 80 civil society organizations in Ecuador,
brought together some 3,000 community leaders, human rights and
environmental activists, academics and government representatives
from 90 countries around the world.

civil society and government to engage on migration and
migration-related issues shaping the world today," noted IOM Chief
of Mission in Ecuador, Rogelio Bernal, who participated in a panel
on the impact of climate change on migration.
