IOM Signs Status Agreement with Brazil
A status agreement signed on Monday between IOM and the Brazilian
government grants IOM all privileges and immunities allotted to all
international organizations present in Brazil.
Brazil’s Under Secretary General for Brazilian Communities
Abroad, Ambassador Oto Agripino Maia, and IOM’s Regional
Representative for the Southern Cone, Eugenio Ambrosi, signed the
agreement in a ceremony attended by the president of the Conselho
Nacional de Migração (National Migration Council) and
officials of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice, and
Labour.
According to Brazilian law, the agreement must be ratified by
Congress. Brazil became an IOM Member State in 2004.
