IOM signs agreement with Eurasian Economic Commission
Switzerland – Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Minister of Economy and Finance Policy Timur Suleymenov, and IOM Director General William Lacy Swing today signed a Memorandum on Cooperation at IOM Headquarters in Geneva.
The EEC, which was established in November 2011, is the executive body of the economic and customs union between Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia. Its main objective is to implement and develop the customs union and single economic space (SES), and to develop proposals for further economic integration.
The agreement with IOM will create partnership conditions to effectively manage migration processes. It will also establish specific areas of cooperation, including migration monitoring, analysis of best practices in migration management, and the implementation of migration legislation in SES member states. Cooperation will cover a range of activities, including the exchange of migration data and analysis, and joint events addressing migration topics.
