IOM signed an Agreement with Germany Embassy in Chad for the donation of 500,000 EURO for Flood Affected Persons in Chad, 03 December 2012 in N’Djamena, Chad

IOM Chad signed an agreement with German Embassy in Chad for the donation of 500,000 EURO for providing humanitarian assistance to flood affected persons in Chad.

Heavy rains in 16 out of the 23 regions in the country have destroyed 255,000 hectares of cultivated land and 94,000 houses. Additionally, 700,000 persons have been affected.

This has caused displacement and lack of access to potable water; sanitation and basic hygiene; health services; education and food of the affected persons.
 
The two major components of the project are to provide:

  1. direct assistance to the affected persons i.e. Food, NFI’s, temporary shelter, medical and psychosocial services, protection and transportation and
  2. institutional support to the national authorities and actors to better manage displacement due to natural disasters including floods as part of the national contingency plan.

The agreement was signed by H. E. Mr. Helmut KULITZ, the German Ambassador in the Republic of Chad and Dr. Qasim SUFI, IOM CoM to Chad in the presence of HE Mr. Bachar Ali SOULEYMANE, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization; Permanent Secretary of the National Commission for Assistance on Reintegration of Refugees and Returnees (CNARR), Mr. Mahamat NOUR and other Senior Officials from the Government, UN and NGO’s.  

At the request of the Government of Chad and in coordination with the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) in Chad, IOM is providing assistance to flood affected persons in the country.
 
The ceremony took place in IOM office in N’Djamena in the presence of national mass media.
