IOM Provides Support to the EU Elections Observer Mission
IOM Ecuador is providing logistical and administrative support to
the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) for the
upcoming elections in Ecuador.
On 30 September 2007, Ecuadorians will elect the 130 members of
the Constituent Assembly, which will have a maximum of 240 days to
draft a new constitution.
The EU EOM Core Team arrived on 27 August to start the
observation process. The objective of the mission is to support the
democratic process in Ecuador, in particular, the election
process.
IOM is in charge of the logistical and the administrative
support of the mission, including all travel by air and land,
vehicles, accommodation and security.
Next week, 36 long-term observers will arrive in Ecuador,
followed by a group of 60 short-term observers. All will be
deployed throughout the 22 provinces of the country.
