IOM Promotes Social Cohesion in Bangui and Boda, Central African Republic

Central African Republic - IOM Central African Republic (CAR) has launched two initiatives aiming at strengthening social cohesion, community dialogue and trust-building in the country.

The activities are part of IOM CAR’s Community Stabilization Project funded by the European Union, which aims to promote  peaceful co-existence and economic revitalization in the capital Bangui, as well as in the towns of Bambari, Boda, Kaga Bandoro and Ndele.

On December 2-4, a group of 20 beneficiaries from Bangui’s 5th district participated in a training in theatre techniques implemented jointly with La Compagnie Assoungba Systeme. The training provided participants with the necessary tools to use theater to bring people from different communities together and strengthen community dialogue.

In Boda, 180 km southeast of Bangui, IOM also organized a drawing and painting workshop for 50 children aged between 5-14, in cooperation with local schools from different communities. The activity brought children from Christian and Muslim communities together and provided a safe space for them to communicate and express their experiences.

IOM’s Community Stabilization Project, aims to contribute to the stability and early recovery of communities affected by the widespread violence since December 2013. The latest upsurge of violence was in September this year.
