IOM Presents National Strategy of Integrated Border Management in Mauritania
Mauritania - IOM, in partnership with the Mauritanian government, has presented the National Strategy for Integrated Borders Management in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
Financed by the IOM Development Fund, the development of this strategy was possible thanks to the collaboration and the active participation of representatives of all security agencies and government departments involved in integrated border management.
The document addresses all border and cross-border threats identified to be affecting the security of the country. An action plan and budget plan list the activities to be undertaken in order to secure air, land and sea borders in Mauritania, through the involvement of all relevant structures and the direct coordination with neighbouring countries and international organizations.
In her address at the presentation, Anke Strauss, IOM Mauritania’s Chief of Mission, expressed her wish that this strategy will support the country in the improvement of its integrated border management, stressing the fact that this is the first strategy of its kind in the entire sub-region and that it will serve as a model for the further development of a similar strategy in the Republic of Mali.
