IOM Organizes Document Security and Fraud Recognition Training in Malaysia
Malaysia - Officials from over a dozen Malaysian immigration offices have completed a two-week advanced training on document security and fraud recognition at the National Immigration Academy.
The aim of the training was to build the capacity of immigration officers to advanced level to allow them to become document specialists and trainers able to conduct and deliver training in document examination in field offices across Malaysia.
The training was conducted by two staff from the Immigration and Border Management Unit of IOM’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) and seven external experts from Portugal, Germany and the Netherlands.
“This training will help participants to support frontline immigration and border control officers in their daily document examination work. In the long run it should contribute towards the creation of a national document examination structure in Malaysia,” said acting head of IOM Malaysia Yasar Ogul.
The project, which was part of a regional anti-smuggling programme funded by the Government of Canada and implemented in six different countries in Southeast Asia, was implemented by IOM in cooperation with the Malaysian Immigration Department.
