IOM, Norway and Denmark Sign Counter Trafficking Agreement

The Embassies of Norway and Denmark today agreed to fund a major
IOM project to combat human trafficking and protect trafficking
victims in Bangladesh.

The project will support ongoing efforts by the government to stamp
out human trafficking in the country, with the support of local and
international partners.

The USD 3.16 million, 3-year project - Prevention and Protection of
Victims of Human Trafficking in Bangladesh – will be
implemented in close collaboration with the Ministry of Women and
Children Affairs.

Designed to reduce human trafficking, particularly of children,
adolescent girls and women in Bangladesh through coordinated and
integrated interventions, it will be implemented in 22 of the
country’s 64 districts or sub-divisions.

“The project will take an integrated, flexible strategic
approach that addresses human rights, capacity building, community
involvement, partnerships and strengthening NGO networks,”
says IOM Regional Representative for South Asia Shahidul Haque.
