IOM Libya Hosts Workshop on International Protection

Libya - Yesterday (25/4) IOM Libya opened three-day training in Tunis for Libyan NGOs and local authorities on the protection of vulnerable migrants.

The workshop, which was funded by the European Union under an IOM project: “Prevention and management of irregular migration flows from Sahara Desert to Mediterranean Sea”, was coordinated through the Protection Working Group.

It aims to raise awareness of international protection principles and available legal frameworks for humanitarian agencies providing life-saving protection services in Libya. It is also designed to establish dialogue and information exchange to support the Protection Working Group in terms of advocacy and humanitarian intervention.

The workshop, which attracted 20 participants from all over Libya, was facilitated by agencies including IOM, UNHCR, DRC, UNICEF, SC and UNMAS.

In spite of the ongoing crisis in Libya, IOM is continuing to provide the direct assistance to stranded migrants and displaced families inside the country. This includes direct assistance including the distribution of non-food relief items (NFIs), hygiene kits and psychosocial support delivered through implementing partners.
