IOM - Kuwait Ties Strengthen
IOM Director General Brunson McKinley on Tuesday met Mr. Najeeb
A.A. Al – Bader, the Deputy of the Kuwaiti Permanent
Representative in Geneva at the organization's headquarters. During
the meeting, Mr. Najeeb A.A. Al – Bader handed over a cheque
for US$200,000 in an annual gesture of voluntary support and
recognition of IOM's global humanitarian activities.
Kuwait has become an increasingly important donor to IOM in recent
years having contributed significant amounts of funds for IOM's
humanitarian programmes in Iraq with the Organization's office in
Kuwait overseeing IOM's activities in Basra in southern Iraq.
It is the fourth year that Kuwait has given such a voluntary
contribution to IOM and it is a mark of the steady growth and
cooperation between the two.
"We are proud of our growing humanitarian partnership with the
State of Kuwait, a leading actor in the humanitarian arena in the
Middle East and worldwide ," said McKinley. The IOM Director
General expressed his appreciation for the efforts deployed by
Ambassador Razooqi and members of the permanent mission of Kuwait
in developing a closer and stronger relationship between his
government and IOM.
The meeting also discussed ways and means to reinforce and
diversify cooperation programmes between Kuwait and IOM,
particularly in the context of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
