IOM, Korean National Emergency Management Agency Co-Host Disaster Relief Workshop
IOM and the Korean National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) will
co-host a two-day workshop on humanitarian assistance and disaster
relief at the government complex in Seoul on May 30th and 31st.
Participants will include representatives of the Ministries of
Public Administration and Security, Foreign Affairs and Trade,
Unification and Defence, the Korea International Cooperation Agency
and members of the Korea Integrated Humanitarian Assistance
Center.
As the IASC global cluster lead for camp management and camp
coordination (CCCM), IOM will provide an overview of humanitarian
aid, disaster management, the global cluster system, international
humanitarian standards and guidelines.
It will also discuss contingency planning, including disaster
risk reduction schemes in cities and emergency outreach to migrant
populations, particularly in natural disasters.
"Climate-induced changes present us many challenges and
highlight the importance of disaster risk reduction and
preparedness. IOM's global experience and technical expertise will
help us to be better equipped for future emergencies," said Li Ki
Hwan, the Administrator of the NEMA and the Korean
government’s emergency response focal point.
