IOM, Korean Justice Ministry, Open Migration Policy Institute
IOM and the Korean Ministry of Justice have opened a migration
policy institute in the city of Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
The Migration Policy Institute is a joint venture established by
the Justice Ministry and IOM as a policy response to Korea's
expanding immigrant population and growing interest in migration
management.
The institution will conduct research on a range of Korean
migration issues and policies, including high profile topics such
as foreign marriages, labour migration and irregular immigration.
It will also address pan-Asian migration issues.
The opening of the institute was attended by Justice Minister
Lee Kwi-nam, Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo and IOM's Director of
International Migration Law and Legal Affairs, Richard
Perruchoud.
IOM has seconded a senior official to manage the institute,
which will be supervised by the Justice Ministry and financially
supported by Gyeonggi Province and Goyang City.
