IOM Joins Humanitarian Partners in the Celebration of the International Humanitarian Day in Chad, 19 August, N’Djamena
IOM has joined its humanitarian partners in the celebration of International Humanitarian Day on 19th August 2013 in N’Djamena. Themes covered this year included Food, Potable Water, Education and Protection.
The following activities were organized to celebrate the occasion:
- Joint Ceremony organized by the Ministry of Plan and International Cooperation and the Office of the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Chad (see programme)
- Joint Press Conference by the Minister of Plan and International Cooperation represented by the Secretary of State, Ms. Djimasbeye Ndade; the Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. Thomas Gurtner and IOM Chad’s Chief of Mission, Dr. Qasim Sufi (see photo).
- Photo Exhibition on beneficiaries’ humanitarian needs and assistance. All the three activities took place in AI-Mouna Centre in N'Djamena on 19 August 2013 (see photo).
In addition, a Radio Debate by the Ministry of Plan and International Cooperation, the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and NGOs will take place on 11 September 2013 through Radio National de Tchad.
The celebration of International Humanitarian Day was attended by high-ranking government officials including the Minister of Social Affairs, Family and National Solidarity; the Secretary of the State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and African Integration, representatives from United Nations (UN) and non-UN agencies. It was covered by national television, radio and newspapers.
