IOM joined other UNCT Agencies in Chad in the Celebration of the UN Day, 24 October 2013
IOM joined 10 other agencies of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Chad in organizing and celebrating UN Day on 24 October together with the Government of Chad.
As part of the activities to mark UN Day, several meetings of the UN Communication Group (UNCG) took place, and two field missions to Goz Beida and Mao were carried out with journalists to document the work of the UN agencies (i.e., WFP, FAO, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNDP, UNHCR, IOM and OCHA) in the field.
The theme for this year’s UN Day in Chad was “The United Nations at the Service for Peace and Development” and it focused on the different sub-themes related to Health, Governance, Durable Solutions, Humanitarian Assistance and Resilience.
Activities included the following:
- The presentation of the message of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and a joint presentation of the activities of the UNCT Agencies in Chad given by the UN HC/RC/DO in Chad followed by a conference debate between the UNCT heads of agencies and civil society, students, development partners, government institutions and media.
- Photo exhibitions on the activities of the UNCT agencies in the country, where IOM presented photos on Emergency, Community Stabilization and MIDA projects activities.
- A display of documents from UNCT agencies on project activities in the country.
All activities took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the patronage of the Minister who was represented by his Secretary General.
