IOM Hosts High-level Roundtable on Labour Migration for Ethiopian Officials
Ethiopia - IOM, in partnership with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs organized a high-level roundtable discussion on labour migration for government officials and policymakers on December 18th in Addis Ababa.
The event, which brought together 20 high-level policymakers from all relevant government ministries and agencies working in areas related to labour migration management, was part of IOM’s “Strengthening Labour Migration Management in Ethiopia” project financed by the IOM Development Fund.
Its aim was to improve the understanding of government policymakers in the executive, legislative and judiciary branches of effective labour migration management. It also highlighted the need for a policy framework to guide overall migration management in the country.
The roundtable was designed to facilitate a discussion on labour migration management, exchange experiences from other countries, study policy development processes, and examine how to mainstream labour migration into national development policies and strategy frameworks.
IOM labour migration and human development specialists from South Africa and Egypt facilitated the roundtable, which included speakers from Nigeria and Sri Lanka.
