IOM Hosts Camp Management, Coordination Training in Timor-Leste

IOM, with the support of the Norwegian Refugee Council, yesterday
launched a 5-day training in Camp Management and Camp Coordination
(CCCM) for government officials and aid workers in Dili.

The workshop for 26 participants from the Ministry of Social
Solidarity, UN agencies and NGOs aims to train specialists to work
within the CCCM/ Emergency Shelter "cluster" – the group of
aid agencies working in camp management and camp coordination to
support host governments following natural and man-made
disasters.

The cluster, which is coordinated globally by IOM, updated its
training materials in 2010 and conducts similar disaster
preparedness trainings worldwide.

Timor-Leste has experienced mass displacement twice in the past
decade. The most recent crisis was in 2006, when following civil
unrest some 150,000 people had to flee their homes in Dili to seek
protection in 65 displacement camps around the city.

The training was opened by Her Excellency, Maria Domingas
Fernandes Alves, Minister of Social Solidarity.
