IOM Hands Over Vehicle to Abuja Chicken Sellers Association
The IOM mission in Abuja, Nigeria handed over a Toyota HiAce Bus to
the Abuja Chicken Sellers Association on 2nd July 2008. This was
part of a global pandemic preparedness project funded by the
Government of Japan.
IOM implemented social mobilization campaigns on avian influenza
in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to curb the spread of Avian
Influenza in Nigeria. All activities were organized in
collaboration with the government of Nigeria, the United Nations
system, development partners and other relevant stakeholders.
Members of the Abuja Chicken Sellers Association were one of the
target populations with whom IOM conducted information surveillance
and sensitization activities.
The vehicle will be used for the safe and dignified
transportation of Association members and for other activities such
as the sensitization of other chicken sellers in the FCT on bird
flu.
