IOM Egypt Inaugurates Migration Health Assessment Centre
Egypt - IOM Egypt has inaugurated its first independent migration health assessment centre to provide full health assessments for refugees planning to resettle in five main destination countries: the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
The centre will provide full health assessments, including immunization and pre-departure medical screenings. It will also provide any necessary treatment for applicants, based on each country’s relevant guidelines.
“The centre has already arranged medicals for some 750 Syrians who are going through the resettlement process to Canada,” said IOM Egypt’s Head of Migrant Health Dr. Asma Nadeem. “Our plan is to also expand our health assessment services to self-payer migrants in Egypt,” she added.
Since January 2015, IOM Egypt has conducted around 3,200 health assessments for various resettlement countries. It has also provided 4,500 pre-departure medical screenings and 2,900 presumptive treatment administrations.
