IOM Distributes Hygiene Kits to Roma Families in Flood-Affected Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina - IOM Bosnia and Herzegovina this week distributed emergency hygiene kits to 120 Roma families affected by flooding in the region.
The kits each contained 6 kg of washing detergent, 2 litre of washing up liquid, 2 bottles of universal cleaning fluid, 5 bars of toilet soap, 5 bars of laundry soap, 1 litre of shampoo, 2 tubes of toothpaste and a shaving kit. 120 packs of underwear for women, men and children were also distributed.
The families are now living in collective accommodation, but may soon return to their flood-damaged homes. The hygiene kits aim to reduce the risk of disease.
According to official estimates, as many as a million people have been impacted by the heavy rains that have badly affected 46 municipalities of Bosnia and Herzegovina since the middle of May.
The most pressing concerns for the government and aid agencies are currently: ongoing flooding, landslides, the disposal of animal carcasses and debris disposal, re-opening of schools, resumption of municipal functions, and the provision of power and water.
IOM Bosnia and Herzogovina is working with the UN Country Team to help flood-affected families to return to their homes and rebuild their communities.
