IOM Distributes Aid to Syrian Refugees in Iraq

IOM has completed a third distribution of non-food relief items
with UNHCR to help 90 Syrian refugee families sheltering in the
Domiz refugee camp in Dahuk governorate in the Kurdistan region of
northern Iraq.

IOM distributed blankets, water filters, pillows, stoves, gas
cylinders, carpets, rechargeable fans and lights, while UNHCR
provided mattresses, kerosene heaters, jerry cans, plastic sheets,
kitchen sets, and cleaning kits.

The operation was the third joint IOM and UNHCR emergency
distribution in the last two weeks and was implemented at the
request of the Dahuk Government Emergency Cell.

A total of over 3,000 individuals are currently living in Domiz
camp. Many of the refugees come from the Syrian governorates of
Hasaka, Halab, Damascus and Reef Dimashq.

IOM is also working with UNHCR to build the basic infrastructure
of the camp, including erecting tents and building latrines. IOM is
also constructing a 21,000 liter water storage tank to supply clean
drinking water to the whole camp.

The Dahuk Bureau of Migration and Displacement believes that up
to 7,000 more refugees may seek shelter in Domiz over the next
month.

IOM Iraq is urgently seeking funding from the international
community to provide assistance to the ongoing influx of Syrian
nationals into Iraq.
