IOM Director General Swing to Visit Senegal
IOM Director General William Lacy Swing will make an official visit
to Dakar, the Senegalese capital, on Monday July 9th.
During the visit he will attend a meeting of the Migration
Dialogue for West Africa (MIDWA) organized by the Economic
Community of West African States (ECOWAS), with funding from the
Swiss Government and technical assistance from IOM.
The meeting aims to reinforce MIDWA as a sustainable ECOWAS
regional consultative process on migration by developing detailed
operating procedures and identifying current weaknesses that need
to be addressed. It will also prepare a joint statement to be
submitted to the ECOWAS Council of Ministers for approval.
While in Dakar, Ambassador Swing will also meet with Senegalese
Prime Minister Abdoul M’Baye and Foreign Minister Alouine
Badara Cissé to discuss IOM’s long running close
collaboration with Senegal both at national level and through
ECOWAS.
He will also extend an invitation to the Minister of Foreign
Affairs and Senegalese Abroad to take part in the Ministerial Forum
on the Diaspora that IOM will organize in April 2013, ahead of the
September 2013 High Level Dialogue on Migration at the United
Nations General Assembly in New York.
