Slovenia - On Thursday, 10 March 2016, IOM Slovenia organized a one-day training titled "Overview of Trafficking in Human Beings (THB) Trends and Responses". The training was made possible with the financial support of the Migrant and Refugee Fund of the Council of Europe Development Bank and was carried out by the IOM Regional Specialist in the field of counter-trafficking Irina Todorova.

The training was delivered for frontline workers engaged in reception and accommodation centres for migrants and asylum seekers in Slovenia. In addition to 26 representatives of local non-governmental as well as international organizations, the Slovenian National Coordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings Sandi Čurin attended the training. Čurin presented the national context and the efforts of the inter-ministerial working group for combating THB which operates under the Ministry of the Interior.

The interactive training discussed the main challenges frontline workers are facing, specifically in relation to the identification of potential victims and the development of the national referral mechanism. It looked at ways to enhance the work of relevant stakeholders in order to guarantee protection and adequate care to identified victims of trafficking in Slovenia.
