IOM Assisted the Government of Chad in Transporting Ex Combatants and Family Members from “Front Populaire Pour le Redressement” (FPR) who have Signed a Peace Agreement with the Government of Chad from Doyaba to their Places of Origin
At the request of the Government of Chad through the Office of the National Mediator, IOM assisted the Government of Chad in transporting Ex Rebel and Family Members from “Front Populaire Pour le Redressement” (FPR) who have Signed a Peace Agreement with the Government of Chad from Doyaba (5 kms from Sarh) to their Places of Origin from 14 to 18 November 2012.
Prior to transportation, IOM carried out registration and profiling exercises as well as pre-departure medical screening and care for the target group.
In total, the IOM team on Doyaba registered 491 ex-rebels and their dependents with 58% being of female gender. 27% of the cases are below the age of 18 years.
Major final destinations for the transported cases are: N’Djamena, Sido and Kilessoum. Other final destinations are Deni, Doba, Koumra, Gore and Moundou. Additionally, each member of the group has been issued with a “Laissez Passer” and provided with a Cash Grant of 150,000XAF from the Chadian Authorities prior to departure to final destination.
United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) are assisting the Government to take care of 26 child soldiers in the group and family tracing and reunification.
