IOM and UNHCR Launch Educational Toolkit on Asylum and Migration in Europe
A new educational toolkit on migration and asylum is being launched
across Europe this week. 'Not Just Numbers' has been designed to
inform young people about the main issues surrounding migration and
asylum in the European Union. It is the product of a joint
venture of IOM and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR,
and co-financed by the European Commission through the 2006
European Refugee Fund.
The objective is to increase knowledge about the different
situations of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees in the EU, to
promote public understanding of the situation of newcomers and to
combat discrimination and prejudice.
By means of short films and a teacher's guide, the toolkit
provides lesson plans, learning activities and other educational
resources that can be used inside and outside the classroom.
