IOM and French Think Tank IDDRI Sign Agreement, Expand Collaboration on Climate Change and Migration
The Institut du Développement Durable et des Relations
Internationales (IDDRI), a leading French think tank, and the
International Organization for Migration (IOM) engaged in a formal
cooperation agreement on the 6th of July 2011, in Geneva,
Switzerland.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaboration on
climate change, environment, sustainable development and migration
was signed by Ms. Laurence Tubiana, Director of IDDRI and by Mr.
William Lacy Swing, Director General of IOM, in the presence of the
Chief of Mission of IOM Paris, Mr. Maurizio Busatti and of
representatives from both institutions.
IDDRI is a prominent institution, opening new grounds on the
issues of governance, climate, biodiversity, urban issues and
agriculture. It devotes particular attention to migration as a
possible adaptation strategy to climate change and to environmental
degradation.
IDDRI and IOM have a long and rich history of cooperation built
on a variety of migration and environment research, trainings,
articles and policy level initiatives.
The MoU formalizes this partnership and opens a new stage of
strategic collaboration. It also emphasizes IOM's commitment to
further expand knowledge and activities on the complex links
between migration, climate change, adaptation and development.
