International Migrants Day in Chad
Celebrations to mark International Migrants Day on 18th December 2011 in the Chadian capital, N'djamena, attracted special attention from the government of Chad. Not only was it an occasion to celebrate Chad becoming a full member of the IOM just a few days before, but also an opportunity to mark the safe return home of about 100,000 Chadian migrants from Libya, many with help from IOM. The occasion, which included speeches explaining the importance of International Migrants Day, followed by a photo exhibition demonstrating IOM’s work, was well attended by government ministers, representatives of diplomatic missions, several NGOs based in Chad and the general public.
