“Greening the Blue” – IOM Participates in the Celebration of United Nations Day in Chad, 24 August 2012

United Nations (UN) Day marks the foundation of the UN on 24th October 1945. The UN General Assembly has legalized the celebration of the UN Day in 1947.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), as a member of the UN Country Team (UNCT) in Chad participated in the organization and celebration of UN Day that was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and African Integration of the Republic of Chad.

The theme for UN Day 2012 was “Greening the Blue” as it focused on the way the UNCT addresses environmental issues arising from climate change.

The following activities were organized on the occasion:

  1. Photo exhibitions on UNCT activities in the country, where IOM presented photos from Emergency and Community Stabilization Project activities in Chad;
  2. A “Giant Concert” in which more than seven international and national artists participated; and
  3. Cocktails at the residence of the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) where the message of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon for UN Day 2012 was delivered by the RC in Chad.

UN Day mobilized hundreds of people from different levels the civil society and media in the country.
