The German Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Helmut Kulitz visits IOM projects funded by the Federal Republic of Germany in Chad, 15 – 22 November 2012

At the request of IOM to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Chad, H. E. Mr. Helmut Kulitz visited the IOM Chad projects funded by the Federal Republic of Germany from 15–22 November 2012.

The major objective of his mission was to gain an in-depth view of the ongoing IOM projects funded by Germany. During his field mission, the Ambassador visited ongoing activities from Psychosocial and Socio-economic Reintegration projects for the Chadian returnees from Libya in Moussoro (Bahr El-Gazal Region), Faya (Bourkou Region) and Ounianga Kebir (Ennedi Region); he met with project beneficiaries and host communities and humanitarian partners and national authorities.

Germany is one of the major donors for IOM projects in Chad.

IOM Chad has received the initial funding from Germany during the Libyan crisis in 2011. It was for the Humanitarian Assistance and Evacuation of Chadian Migrants from Libya. Currently, Germany is funding Psychosocial and Socio-economic Reintegration Projects for Chadian Returnees in Areas of High Returns including N’Djamena, Borkou, Ennedi, Kanem, Bahr El-Gazal, Ouaddaï and Logon Orientale regions. Moreover, Germany has just provided IOM Chad with new emergency funding of 500,000 Euro for flood-affected persons in Chad.

The Ambassador was accompanied during his visit by Ms. Anne Kathrin Schaefer, the IOM Project Manager for Community Stabilization Projects in Chad.

The Ambassador has commended IOM Chad for the professional work in the very challenging working environment in the northern regions, where IOM continues to be the only agency operating with the aim of providing assistance to returnees from Libya and host communities.
