Exhibition on the Realities of Irregular Migration

An exhibition of artwork by local artists and young Senegalese
migrants who failed in their attempt to reach Europe opens today at
the IOM office in Dakar.

The exhibition, which will run until October 5th, is entitled
"Regards croisés sur l'émigration
clandestine."

This programme has received the support of local artists who
have taken part in an IOM workshop to give young Senegalese the
opportunity to express through art their experience of irregular
migration.

All works of art are for sale. Profits will go to support the
activities of GIE TEKKI FI Ci SENEGAL (To Succeed Here in Senegal),
a non-profit organization made up of young Senegalese migrants who
have been returned from Europe.

This initiative is part of a European Commission-funded
programme to reinforce the capacities of the Senegalese government
to manage migration and fight irregular migration.

As part of efforts to combat significant levels of irregular
migration from Senegal, the Senegalese government and IOM have also
recently launched an information campaign aimed at raising
awareness of the dangers of irregular migration and at preventing
it.
