Ethiopian Parliamentarians Train in Migration Law
Ethiopia - IOM will tomorrow (15/12) launch a two-day training in international migration law in Addis Ababa for Ethiopian Members of Parliament.
The training will target members of three standing committees of the House of Peoples’ Representatives of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia - Legal and Administrative Affairs, Social Affairs, and Women, Children and Youth Affairs.
The training, which will be provided by international experts, will give the MPs an insight into the principles and rules underlying aspects of international law including human rights law, humanitarian law, labour law, refugee law, consular law and maritime law.
The objective of the training is to help them to develop migration policies and legislation that enhances the rights and protection of migrants and ultimately helps the country to manage migration more effectively and in a manner consistent with international law.
International migration law, which is the international legal framework governing migration, is not covered by any one legal instrument or norm. It is an umbrella term covering a variety of principles and rules that together regulate the international obligations of States with regard to migrants.
