Enhancing Migration Governance in Brazil

cover

In Brazil, a need has been identified to inform and strengthen the capacity of local authorities in terms of migration governance. Most of these actors have been found to be unfamiliar with migration policy processes, thereby posing a challenge to adequate migration governance. In the same vein, there has been a growing need to build coordination mechanisms amongst all federative spheres (municipalities, states and federal governments) in the area of migration, to allow for effective policy monitoring and approval.

With financing from the IOM Development Fund, the project "Enhancing Migration Governance in Brazil" was set up to respond to these issues and strengthen the capacity of local governments to better manage migration and facilitate the integration of migrants. Through this project, IOM Brazil, in partnership with the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and the National School of Public Administration (ENAP), developed the MigraCidades platform, which serves to deliver capacity-building to local actors, to foster dialogue on migration and to certify public policies and good practices implemented by Brazilian states and cities. More information on the MigraCidades platform can be found in the images above or in the document below.
