Director General Receives ISESCO Award

IOM Director General Brunson McKinley has received the Islamic
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Gold Medal during
the Organization’s 9th General Conference, which ended on
Sunday at ISESCO’s new headquarters in Rabat.

The award was presented by Dr. Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri,
Director General of ISESCO, in recognition of the fruitful
cooperation between the two Organizations.

IOM signed a cooperation agreement with ISESCO in December 2003.
Since then, both Organizations have worked closely on a variety of
migration related issues.

In December 2005, with the support of ISESCO, IOM and the Ministry
in charge of the Moroccan Community Residing Abroad organised an
international conference on the theme of “Migration and
Religion in a Globalized World”.

During the meeting, the ISESCO Director General also decorated
five personalities for their significant contributions to the
literary, scientific and cultural arena in the Arab, Asian and
African regions.

The three-day meeting brought together ministers from
ISESCO’s 51 Member States as well as representatives of Arab,
Islamic and international organizations to discuss ways to expand
cooperation  in the areas of education, science, culture and
communication.

ISESCO was created in 1981 by the Third Islamic Summit Conference
to promote cooperation between Islamic states in the fields of
education, science, culture and communication.
