Construction of New Health Clinic in Afghanistan
IOM has begun construction of a health clinic in the Layoba
district of Fayzabad City in the province of Badakshan. The 6-month
project is funded by the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
European Integration (MFAEI).
The clinic will provide the local Layoba community with a
clinic, a well, a boundary wall, a septic tank, a guard house,
latrines and a generator house. All the facilities are
designed to provide access for the disabled.
The project, which will contribute to the province's health
infrastructure plan drawn up by the Ministry of Public Health, will
provide services to some 23,000 people (3,800 families) in 35
villages.
This project is part of Croatia's long term commitment to the
Afghan Development Strategy. It also participates in the ISAF
Mission and Croatian police officers contribute to Afghan National
police reform as a part of the EUPOL Mission.
In Afghanistan, IOM works closely with the government
counterparts, in line with the Afghan National Development Strategy
(ANDS), focusing on technical cooperation and capacity
building.
IOM programmes provide emergency relief to vulnerable displaced
families, facilitate long-term return and reintegration to and
within Afghanistan and stabilize migrant communities for
sustainable development and consequently combat irregular
migration.
